The Flying Tigers (51-51, 9-26) erased a 2-0 deficit in the middle innings and defeated the Marauders (57-47, 22-13) 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Joker Marchant Stadium. Jose Osuna had a big day at the plate in defeat, going 4-for-4 with three doubles, one run scored, and one driven in.
The Marauders continued their trend of getting early offense, tagging Edgar De La Rosa (W, 6-8) for a run in the second and another in the third. Justin Maffei singled to left to plate Eric Wood and open the scoring, and an inning later Osuna doubled to score Adam Frazier. De La Rosa settled down and whiffed five over six innings.
Tyler Glasnow (L, 7-5) was dominant through the first four innings. Glasnow retired the first 10 batters in a row, set down 12 of the first 14, and accumulated eight strikeouts through four innings. The Flying Tigers struck back to plate two in the fifth and one in the sixth, chasing Glasnow after 5 2/3 innings. The righty finished with nine strikeouts, but walked four while surrendering four hits.
Joan Montero made his first appearance for the Marauders this season, surrendering two runs over 2 1/3 innings in relief of Glasnow. The Marauders plated a run on Wood’s sacrifice fly to score Osuna in the eighth, but Scott Sitz (S, 1) picked up a double play grounder to end that inning and tossed a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Marauders open a four game series against the North Division leading Daytona Cubs on Monday night in Daytona Beach. Jason Creasy will be on the hill for Bradenton. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast on www.BradentonMarauders.com.
