BRADENTON – On Tuesday, Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube announced that he will not run for reelection in November of 2016.
Steube, who is enrolled in the state's DROP program, will retire at the end of his current term in January of 2017.
Sheriff Steube was appointed Manatee Sheriff by Governor Charlie Crist in April of 2007, when long-time Sheriff Charlie Wells retired.
He was then elected in 2008 and reelected in 2012. Wells' son, Rick, recently resigned his post as Palmetto Police Chief to take the number two position at MCSO, sparking specualtion that he would be looking toward the Sheriff's office when Steube retired.
