December 24, 1928 - August 20, 2023
Lloyd Case Irving Jr., age 94, of Bradenton, FL passed away peacefully in his home on August 20, 2023. Lloyd, known as Skip, was born in Flint, MI, the only child of Lloyd Sr., and Dorothy (Martin) Irving on December 24, 1928.
Lloyd is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 75 years, Barbara (Penney). He is also survived by their 4 children; Lloyd C. III of Alpharetta, GA, Richard W. and wife, Debora of Royal Oak, MI, Michael L. of Marietta, GA, and Carolyn Hinske and husband, David of Evanston, IL. Skip is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Jennifer Jeakle, Kelley Leonard, and Kyle Irving; as well as 4 great-grandchildren; William, Lily, Riley, and Logan. Skip was a friend to everyone he met, a stranger to no one, and a very great and loving husband, father, and family figure to all that followed.
Skip graduated from Royal Oak High School and went on to graduate from the University of Detroit with his undergraduate degree and gained his master's degree from Wayne State University. Skip loved to tell people with a smile, that he "couldn't hold a job," while rising through the ranks of the Berkley School District (Michigan) as a teacher, counselor, principal, and finally retiring as Assistant Superintendent. He was always fighting for higher pay, greater benefits, and better insurance for school employees.
Skip had been active in coaching youth sports in baseball and football and was proud of his work with young people. He enjoyed traveling, taking camping and skiing vacations with his family, and exploring the western states after his retirement. Skip was also proud of his 5 hole-in-ones in golf. While living at Meadowcroft, he served as President of the Board of Administrators and Treasurer for several years, and as a cruise guide with Barbara at his side.
Family services will be held at a later date at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI.
