Local Government Palmetto City Commission Agenda Results: June 4, 2012

PALMETTO -- At the Palmetto City Commission meeting Monday, commissioners discussed moving forward with the North River Little League Field. Mayor Bryant is looking to get soil tests and remediation cost figures in order to get to work and get kids back in the park to play ball. City Clerk Jim Freeman is almost ready with next year's budget and will present it to the Commission on July 1. Commissioner Williams suggested amending an ordinance to allow alcohol on Palmetto streets for special events.

6. BASEBALL FIELD UPDATE -- Mayor Bryant announced she would wait until the cost of remediation is available and offer to join the county and produce the money needed to make sure fields are built and the kids can play ball.

8. 5TH STREET STREETSCAPE AND SUTTON PARK PROJECTS UPDATE ( 10 minute time certain) --  On schedule

9. DEPARTMENT HEADS' COMMENTS -- City Clerk Jim Freeman said " We are working through the budget and will have it available the first of July. A premature look suggests numbers may be down $4.6 percent ($31 million) -- equating to $162,000 revenue from the city.


10. MAYOR'S REPORT -- The City Crime is down 18.3 percent. Thanks to all.


11. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS --


--Commissioner Williams suggested amending an ordinance to allow alcohol on city property for special events. Williams was looking for action, otherwise the commission might not be able to make it happen quick enough for the July 4 events. The issue will be on the next workshop agenda and the commission may schedule a special meeting if necessary.
