The Leagues of Women Voters of Sarasota and Manatee County are sponsoring a joint rally in defense of democracy from 10 am to 12 noon on February 14 at the corner of University Parkway and Cattleman Drive in Sarasota.
According to the League of Manatee County, “At a time when the principles of our Constitution and the rule of law face serious challenges, it is essential that we raise our voices together.” The event announcement on the Sarasota League’s event calendar states, “Today's threats to our constitution and the rule of law require us to vigorously speak out and remind our elected representatives they need to be responsive to the will of the people.”
The League of Women Voters is a grassroots, nonpartisan political organization formed by the suffragists on February 14, 1920, to enable women to carry out their new responsibilities as voters. Its mission is to “Empower Voters. Defend Democracy”.
All concerned citizens are welcome. Although signs will be available, participants are encouraged to display their own non-partisan signs. For more information and to register, go to lwvsrq.org or lwvmanatee.
