MANATEE COUNTY – On Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, Manatee County Commissioners will hold an adoption public hearing to consider the amendment request to the county’s future land use map for the 463-acre Long Bar Pointe property. The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Bradenton Area Convention Center and the map amendment request will be the only item on the agenda.

The proposed development has been perhaps the most contentious land use issue in the county's history. In August, more than 1,000 citizens piled into the convention center for a marathon meeting that went into the wee hours of the evening. After some changes to the language of the proposal, it passed 4-3, with Commissioners DiSabatino, Gallen and Chappie dissenting.

At the Aug. 6 Land Use meeting, Commissioners held a public hearing and voted to transmit a request for a map amendment to the Comprehensive Plan to state agencies for review. After receiving comments from the state, the County is now required to hold a public hearing to consider adoption.

At the conclusion of the public hearing on Jan. 23, the Board of County Commissioners will have the ability to adopt the amendment, adopt it with modifications or deny the request for the map amendment altogether.

The Bradenton Area Convention Center is located at 1 Haben Boulevard in Palmetto. The meeting will be broadcast live online at www.mymanatee.org/mga and on Manatee Government Access (MGA) channel locally on Bright House channel 622, Verizon channel 30 and Comcast channel 20.
