MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County Public Works officials are urging drivers to use extra caution in the Tallevast area in coming months as crews repair a stormwater line beneath the road.
Eastbound traffic is limited to one lane along a one-mile stretch of Tallevast Road from Tuttle Avenue to Prospect Road. Chad Butzow, Deputy Director of Public Works, said an aging stormwater pipe beneath the road must be repaired before the lane can reopen.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to close the lane where the storm drain is located,” Butzow said. “We have made every effort to accelerate the repair process. The closure was considered a cautious but prudent step in assuring the safety of the motoring public.”
Because of the current rainy season, the depth of the pipe and the size of the pipe (60 inch in diameter), Butzow estimated that the two-month repair job could begin in October or November. Public Works hopes to have the job complete by January, 2015.
