Manatee

MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County’s Summer Food Program began distributing lunches to local children in areas of need on Tuesday and will continue through Aug. 9, 2013. The Manatee County School District will also be participating in the Summer Food Service Program, which is funded by the U.S Department of Agriculture during the months of June, July and August. 

Through the program, nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. For the past 30 years Manatee County has administered the Florida Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program. Each summer up to 1,500 local children per day receive a free lunch at several locations around Manatee. 

All children 18 years old and younger, if open site, are eligible for meals at no charge, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced-price meals during the school year.

Breakfast service starts at 7:45 am to 8:30 am; Lunch service starts 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. At Harllee Middle School Breakfast service starts at 8:00am to 9:00am. At Harllee Middle and Johnson Middle Lunch service starts at 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Serving times are subject to change.
