Manatee Back in Business After Escaping Worst of Idalia

BRADENTON — Manatee libraries reopened on Thursday, with the exception of the island branch, which remains closed until further notice. All Manatee County public schools reopened Thursday and after-school activities were resumed.

Manatee County Area Transit resumed operations on Thursday, as well, as did county waste pick-up, with normal Tuesday pick-ups on Thursday, Thursday pick-ups on Friday, and Friday pick-ups on Saturday.

There will be no recycling or yard waste this week. All county parks have been reopened, however, flooding may limit the use of certain amenities. All other county buildings reopened on Thursday.

County and city offices will be closed on Monday, Sep. 4, in observance of Labor Day.

AccuWeather’s preliminary estimate of the total damage and economic loss from Hurricane Idalia in the southeastern United States is $18-20 billion. 

County officials said on Wednesday that no storm-related deaths or injuries were reported.
