Manatee County Announces Road Closings, Sewer Line Testing for Week of May 17

The Manatee County Utilities department will be testing the sewer lines on Holmes Beach from May 17 to May 28.

The test will involve putting smoke into the lines and checking for leaks. The tests will be performed from Ambassador Lane to Hampshire Lane. on Key Royal Drive, Holmes Beach. 

The smoke they are using is a nontoxic white smoke that they force in the sewer to locate breaks. Don't be alarmed if you see smoke coming out of the ground.

Canal Road, north of U.S. 301 at the railroad track will be closed May 17 to May 21 due to scheduled maintainence.

Woodruff and Sons CR 675 or Rutland Road will be also be closed due to scheduled maintainence May 17 to June 25. 


Construction on the I-75 Interchange Improvement Project at S.R. 70 (Exit 217) will beginning Thursday, May 5 and last until Friday, May 21.

The southbound I-75 ramp at S.R. 70 (Exit 217) will be closed for overhead sign installation work. Motorists are advised to follow the suggested detour route and to expect possible delays.

Detour: Motorists traveling southbound on I-75 wanting to exit onto S.R. 70 (Exit 217) are advised to exit at University Parkway (Exit 213), turn left on University Parkway, turn left onto northbound I-75 and proceed onto S.R. 70 (Exit 217A & 217B).

Improvements consist of widening the southbound I-75 exit ramp, constructing one additional right turn lane onto westbound S.R. 70, which will allow for two right turn lanes at the new signalized intersection. Other improvements include milling and resurfacing, installing new mast arm signal poles, and storm sewer lines.
