CITIZEN COMMENTS

30. Citizen Comments (Consideration for Future Agenda)

Lee Redfern said the the commission needs to quit taking inquiries citizens have as if they are attacks. Redfern continued, saying that the chairman (Bustle) had no right to turn her microphone off last time she was there; that she didn't swear or throw any slurs to members, and that he (Bustle) "didn't have the right."

Glen Gibellina said he has come before the board six times, wanting to know why the county still doesn't have a renewable energy program at the port. Gibellina compared other ports to Port Manatee, in that they capture the energy they use from roof-top collectors, but that Manatee is not taking advantage of that. Gibellina added, "This is not a privilege that we have, to come up here and address you, it is a right!"

Commssioner DiSabatino said she loved the University Parkway project, and that It will help to get more people here, adding "I think it is a great thing, we would not be here if we did not see a benefit."

Commssioner Gallen said the "Common Law Grand Jury" trumps what he was taught studying government, and that it wouldn't work here now. Gallen added, "Now, if you don't like your representatives, you get rid of them (vote them out)."

Commssioner Benac said she travels around the county all of the time, and rides her bike many places because of the traffic. Benac said, that there is always traffic, no matter where you go, and that everyone should just get used to it.

Commssioner Baugh ragged on the FDOT, saying she agreed with Carol Whitmore, and that there is no reason for a study. "We know there is traffic there." Baugh added, "People out east, (LWR) thank you for the resolution."

Commssioner Whitmore said there are ways to navigate around the heavy traffic, that people just need to get a little creative, adding, "Maybe the traffic guys can think out of the box."

Bustle said that they (the commission), were having some trouble with citizen comments, and that he had asked Micky (county attorney) to draw up some new rules.
