BRADENTON -- At Thursday's Land Use meeting, commissioners spent nearly the entire day discussing the Martin Hillwood / Waterline Road application. For six hours residents, attorneys, commissioners and their staff scoured the documents, pictures and testimonies for reasons to approve or reject the applicants request to build 195 residential units on 77.9 acres in east Manatee County. The final vote was 5 to 2, to deny the application.

Cathy Slusser, Deputy Director of Public Information and Historical Resources for Manatee County, delivered the presentation. Slusser said, "To be authentic, we have to have our historical buildings. Tourists come here for that. Heritage tourism brings in $4.3 billion in revenue annually.
There was no action taken, the second hearing is scheduled for October 3, 2013.
