MANATEE COUNTY – QB Trent Miller fired 5 TD passes as Palmetto ripped through a badly overmatched Auburndale 49-0 Friday night at Harllee Stadium. WR Shaq Harris had 3TD grabs, all in the first half. Palmetto RB Josh Hicks sat out again to rest up an injured ankle, but is expected back when they face district rival Hardee next week, also at home. Palmetto won the first meeting between the two 16-13 on a late 49-yard field goal by Zane Kitchell, who was 7 for 7 on PAT's in Friday's win.

Manatee High cruised past Pinellas Park 55-2 at Hawkins Stadium. The Manatee defense was again dominant, holding the Patriot offense to a shutout, while putting points on the board. Defensive end Blake Keller and linebacker Darius White each took fumbles back for TD's and QB Cord Sandberg found WR Anthony Lauro on two TD passes -- all in the first half. Sandberg was 14-17 for 195 yards passing. RB Antonio Agurs, filling in for injured Leon Allen, put up 76 yards rushing on 8 carries. The Hurricanes will host Venice next week in round two. The Indians won a thrilling game against Countryside on the final drive of the game, 28-27.

Lakewood Ranch came oh so close to pulling off an upset for the ages when they scored four straight touchdowns after trailing no. 2 nationally-ranked Armwood 28-3 in the 3rd quarter. The Mustangs took the lead on a 16-yard TD from Mac Hathaway and could smell historic victory in the 4th quarter. It was the first time this season that Armwood, who'd only allowed only 52 points all season, was behind.

But Armwood's sensational junior QB/WR Alvin Bailey broke free for a 65-yard TD to late in the 4th put the Hawks past the Mustangs 35-31. Hathaway carried the rock 35 times for 142 yards and a TD and QB Kowalewski hit WR Lenny Twenty on a 72-yard TD pass and Brandon King on a 14-yard score, while also rushing for another.
