MANATEE COUNTY -- The Hurricanes had no problem blanking Cypress Bay. The Lightning defense was tough, but Manatee's titan defense proved too much. The Hurricane offense looked a bit sluggish, unable to run the middle effectively and hesitant to go to the long pass.
Southeast needed two overtimes to top a rebounding Riverview team that looks much better since Manatee stomped them in week two. Bayshore got a much needed win against Braden River and Bradenton Christian dropped a tough loss to Carrolwood Day School.
Southeast's Brian Poole earned player of the week honors with a pair of big plays that made the difference -- a 90-yard punt return and a 50-yard TD run after the Florida bound star had to take over RB duties when sophomore sensation Courtney Allen injured his shoulder. Sophomore WR Bobby Haines also came up big, returning the post-halftime kickoff 78 yards for a crucial score.
