Manatee County Sherriff's Office Deputy of the Month

Posted
MANATEE COUNTY – For his efforts to put himself in danger by driving during a Category 3-4 Hurricane to ensure others had electricity and were comfortable in the shelter, Sergeant Robert Hendrickson has been named MCSO’s Deputy of the Month for November 2022.

On the night of September 28, 2022, during Hurricane Ian, Sergeant Robert Hendrickson was stationed at Myakka Elementary School, a hurricane shelter, with approximately 100 residents, his deputies, Fire and EMS.

With the electricity out, the school's generator stopped working. The First-In Team of Fire, EMS, and deputies located a blown-out hose that caused the generator to malfunction, but there was nothing on site to fix the issue.

Sergeant Hendrickson called Scott Falkner for assistance. Mr. Falkner suggested meeting at Falkner Farms to inspect the hose in an attempt to remedy the situation. Both Falkner and Hendrickson drove through hurricane-force conditions to the workshop.

Mr. Falkner was able to fix the massive hose with a pipe and clamps. Sergeant Hendrickson drove back again during hurricane-force winds, to the school where others on-site assisted with getting the hose installed. The generator kicked back on, providing power to the shelter for the remainder of the hurricane.
