Manatee School Board Agenda Results: August 26, 2013

BRADENTON – During Monday's meeting, the Manatee School Board approved eight issues to advocate for during next year's state legislative session and prioritized three of said issues. In other business, the board accepted a used fire engine truck for the studies of MTI firefighter students, donated by the Bradenton Fire Department.

During comments, Bradenton Fire Chief Chuck Edwards presented the board with the title to an '87 Pierce pumper fire engine that will be donated to MTI. Full story can be viewed here.

Manatee resident Glenn Gibellina spoke to the board regarding public records requests that he had sent to several schools in June. "Not one principal has emailed me back with (the requested) information," he said. "That's unacceptable."

Mr. Gibellina gave each school board member individual requests for obtaining custodial records from several schools, in two weeks. After he concluded his comment, Board Chair Karen Carpenter said, "We've all got our homework ... this needs to be resolved."
