Manatee Teacher Arrested for Child Abuse

BRADENTON – Detectives with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office have arrested a teacher at Horizons Academy School in Bradenton on child abuse charges. Colby Cadwell was charged in relation to an incident that occurred on Tuesday.

According to MCSO's report, Cadwell, 31, and a 13 year-old male student were involved in a physical altercation. The student allegedly flinched at another student like he might hit the student. At that time, Cadwell reportedly grabbed the student, threw him to the floor, then picked him up and physically threw him out of the classroom.

The incident was reported to the principal of the school who in turn reported it the school resource deputy. The case was assigned to a detective and the subsequent investigation led to Thursday’s arrest. Horizons Academy is the district's alternative school for students who have had academic and/or behavioral issues.
