Manatee to Host Public Comment Workshops for Proposed Changes to Land Development Code

Posted

MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County will host another opportunity for public comments during the first week of March during a series of workshops before the County Commission as part of the ongoing process to update its Land Development Code.

The workshops will be held each day from Tuesday, March 4 through Friday, March 7 in the First Floor Chambers of Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. The meetings will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be televised on Manatee Government Access (MGA) locally on Bright House channel 622, Verizon channel 30 and Comcast channel 20. The meetings will be streamed live on at www.mymanatee.org/mga.

Anyone may review the proposed changes by visiting the County’s website. Bob Schmitt, Manatee’s Planning Division Manager overseeing the project, said Manatee County received comments from approximately 50 individuals during an initial public comment period that ended Jan. 31. Questions or comments about the proposed changes may be sent to Robert.schmitt@mymanatee.org.

The proposed revisions are the first in a two-phase exercise to update the Land Development Code and to give County Commissioners the ability to better implement community visioning exercises. A second phase of proposed LDC changes will be presented in coming months to incorporate changes consistent with “How Will We Grow: A Conversation with the Community.”

Manatee County staff and the project consultant will incorporate public comments from e-mail and from the March workshops into the public record for consideration during future public hearings before the Planning Commission and County Commission.
