BRADENTON – The Bradenton Marauders (3-12) scored in five straight innings to rally for a 6-5 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals (9-6) on Friday night at McKechnie Field. Alen Hanson tripled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth after committing two errors in the top of the ninth that helped Palm Beach tie the score.

Adrian Sampson started for the Marauders. He was scratched for a single earned run in each of the first three innings, but settled down to pitch five frames while striking out seven. Jhonathan Ramos pitched three scoreless innings of relief and struck out three for the Marauders.

The Marauders tallied an unearned run in the third, then started the streak of one-run innings in the fifth. Carlos Mesa led off the fifth with a solo homer off Cardinals starter Tyler Melling, his second of the season. Consecutive one-out singles by Carlos Osuna and Dan Gamache chased Melling in the sixth, and Osuna scored to tie the game 3-3 on a double by Taylor Lewis off Iden Nazario.

Iden Nazario surrendered the lead to the Marauders on a two-out RBI single to Gregory Polanco in the seventh to score Elias Diaz. Diaz went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Leading 5-3 in the ninth inning, Zack Thornton (W, 1-0) was unable to overcome the two Hanson errors, surrendering runs on a groundout and a two-out RBI single from Ronny Gil to knot the game 5-5.

The Marauders won the game against Jose Almarante (L, 0-1). Diaz led off the bottom of the ninth with his second single and moved to second on an errant pickoff throw. Hanson launched a fly off the base of the wall in right to win the game.

The Marauders and Cardinals complete their series Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Eliecer Navarro will start on the mound for Bradenton against Travis Miller for the Cardinals.
