JUPITER – The Marauders (5-4) seized a 1-0 win at the expense of the Jupiter Hammerheads (3-6) on Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Orlando Castro (W, 2-0) earned the win with six scoreless innings, teaming with Robby Rowland and Jhondaniel Medina to retire the final 14 Hammerheads batters. The win is Bradenton’s first shutout victory of the season.
Like Friday night, the Marauders struck in the first inning. Walker Gourley doubled with one out against Jupiter starter Scott Lyman (L, 1-1). Adam Frazier followed with a hard single to center to score the only run of the game.
Castro struck out four and did not walk a batter. He induced double play grounders in the first and second inning to erase lead-off base runners. The only time Jupiter threatened was in the fifth. Angel Morales smashed a one-out single and advanced to third on Cody Keefer’s hit. Keefer stole second to put two in scoring position with one out. Castro went to full counts on Ross Wilson and Blake Barber, but was able to strike out Wilson swinging and Barber looking. The lefty returned to the mound in the sixth to set down the top of the order.
Robby Rowland pitched a perfect seventh inning followed by a perfect eighth. Jhondaniel Medina worked the ninth for his first save.
Lyman tossed seven innings in defeat. He allowed five hits and struck out five. Chipper Smith struck out five Marauders in relief. The duo snapped Josh Bell’s hitting streak at seven. Bell went 0-for-4 in the game.
The series finale is Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Jason Creasy will pitch for Bradenton. The game will be broadcast online at www.BradentonMarauders.com.
