Marauders Split Long Doubleheader with Hammerheads

JUPITER – The Marauders split a pair of games with the Jupiter Hammerheads on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium, keeping sole possession of first place in the South Division in the process. Jupiter erased a 3-0 deficit in the sixth inning of game one and went on to win 4-3 in 14 innings. The Marauders plated two runs in the sixth inning of the second game to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win.

Trailing 2-1 with one out in the sixth inning of game two, Max Moroff bounced a ground ball to second base off Jupiter starter Jake Esch. Noah Perio mishandled the grounder, opening the door for the Bradenton comeback. Jose Osuna doubled with two outs to score Moroff from first base, and Jin-De Jhang followed with a double of his own to bring home Osuna.

Shane Carle surrendered two hits over six strong innings for the Marauders to earn the victory in the second game. Josh Smith picked up his seventh save in as many tries.

Jupiter put the winning run in scoring position in seven of the last eight innings of the first game before plating the deciding tally with one out in the 14th inning off Walker Gourley. Gourley was called into action after Bryton Trepagnier, Jhondaniel Medina, and Yhonathan Barrios blanked the Hammerheads over the previous seven innings. Jason Creasy whiffed seven batters and walked three over six innings.

Bradenton holds a one game lead over the Palm Beach Cardinals in the South Division standings. The Marauders open a three game series at home against the St. Lucie Mets on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.Chad Kuhl will start on the mound for the Marauders. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
