"A Life Richly Lived with Passion and Kindness"
On the morning of June 17, 2025, Mark William Towers, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Ellenton, Florida, just two days after celebrating his milestone. He was surrounded by loved ones, hand-in-hand with his devoted wife of 54 years, Verle ("Ellie") Towers.
Mark's story began on June 15, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, born to Mary "Betty" and Charles "Mac" Towers. He was raised in Wyoming, Iowa. He met his childhood sweet heart, Verle (Ellie) in grade school. Mark and Ellie were married on October 10, 1970. They built a beautiful life and raised two wonderful sons, Chad and Casey.
He graduated from The University of Iowa, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees. He remained a lifelong Hawkeye. His professional journey began as a High School Teacher and Counselor.
In 1988, Mark took a leap of faith and followed his true calling, founding Speak Out Seminars in Kansas City. As a successful motivational professional speaker he traveled across several states and countries. Mark brought his love for humor into his presentations, using magic and lighthearted moments. Mark had the ability to turn strangers into friends in minutes.
Mark was an accomplished runner; he ran two Boston Marathons and many other competitive races. He enjoyed his morning neighborhood walks with his friends.
Mark was a very proud and present father, guiding Chad and Casey with integrity. His greatest joy were his four grandsons, Canon, Quade, Carson and Kyle who were the light of his life.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Mac Towers, and his brother, James Towers.
He is survived by those who will carry forward his light:
- His beloved wife, Verle "Ellie" Towers
- His sons, Chad Towers and Casey Towers
- His cherished grandchildren: Canon, Quade, Carson, and Kyle Towers
- His siblings: David, Charles, and Jon Towers, and Janet Hagen
- A wide circle of extended family, lifelong friends and former students
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 20th from 1-4 PM at
Harmony Hall, 7615 Lakeshore Dr., Ellenton, FL
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the American Cancer Society, honoring Mark's commitment to hope and healing.
