It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Schenk, who was born on November 6, 1941, in Rotterdam, Holland, and passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside.
At the age of 10, he moved to the United States, where he later graduated from Manatee High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and went on to dedicate much of his life to a career with the United States Post Office.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, reading, and, above all, spending time with his family. Though he never had children by birth, he chose to adopt and raise six children as his own, giving them a life full of love, care, and security. He is survived by his children-Cathi, Theresa, Pat, and Wendy-along with his sister, Alida Helmlinger, and her husband George. In addition, Martin is survived by eight grandchildren: Rowland Jr., Ryan, Cierra, Autumn, Jason, Amy, Emily, and Ethan; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces Marci Cleveland, Ami Harris, and Lori Peterson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; his parents, Ann and Len Schenk; and by two of his children, Billy and Mike.
Those who knew him will always remember his devotion to family, his kindness, and the unwavering love he showed throughout his life. His legacy of selfless love and commitment to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
