Mary Elise (Russell) McMahon, 90, passed away on May 15, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida from natural causes.
She was born on January 26, 1936, in New York City and spent her early years in Long Island and Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1961, she married Raymond J. McMahon (deceased) and moved to Rhode Island, where she lived for many years before finally retiring to Florida. She lived a life marked by faith, devotion, and quiet strength. She will be remembered as an intelligent, thoughtful, and kind soul whose presence brought comfort and grace to those around her.
Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Robert and Elise Russell and grew up surrounded by the love and guidance of her family. She was also a cherished sister to the late Robert Russell and Ann (Russell) Everett. Family remained at the center of Mary’s life throughout her years, and she treasured the bonds she shared with those closest to her. Her love for her family was steady and enduring, and she carried that love with her in all that she did. She was a reliable, supportive and loyal presence in the lives of her children, Raymond, who passed in 2010, Brian, Patrick, and Kevin, as well as her daughter-in-law Jacqueline. She held a special place in her heart for her seven grandchildren: Robby, Ellie, Dalton, Zannie, Veronica, Daniel and Norah. The joy she found in her family was one of the great blessings of her life.
Mary pursued her education with diligence and purpose, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956 from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart and later completing her Master of Science degree from Rhode Island College. Her commitment to learning reflected her thoughtful nature and her desire to better understand and help others. She brought that same dedication into her professional life as a Licensed Substance Abuse Therapist, working for many years in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In her work, Mary offered support, encouragement, and care to many, and she made a meaningful difference in the lives of those she encountered. As a practicing Catholic, Mary lived with a quiet faith that guided her steps and sustained her through the seasons of life. Those who knew her were blessed by her gentle spirit and her ability to listen with a caring heart. She was the kind of woman who made others feel seen and valued, and her thoughtful words and actions left a lasting impression.
Her faith was not merely spoken but lived each day in the way she treated others and in the grace with which she met life’s joys and challenges. Mary also found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. She loved to read, and in books she found both comfort and enjoyment. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren, and those moments together were among her happiest. She also enjoyed meals out, where conversation and companionship added warmth to ordinary days. These interests reflected her appreciation for life’s blessings and her desire to share time and fellowship with those she loved. Her life was enriched by these moments, and she, in turn, enriched the lives of others through her presence.
Mary’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, yet her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family. May she rest in the eternal peace of the Lord, and may her memory continue to be a blessing to all who were privileged to know her.
