Mary Gerdnic

Mary Elizabeth ("Liz") Haws Gerdnic, 93, passed away on June 18, 2024, peacefully from natural causes. She was born on July 30,1930, in Columbus, MS. Her family moved to Paducah, KY, where she was raised.

She graduated from Tilghman High School in 1948, attended Shorter College, Rome, GA, where she was elected President of her Freshman class, and transferred to the University of Louisville, KY, where she was in the Chi Omega sorority and where she met her husband, Frank Gerdnic of 60 years. She graduated from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA, with a BS in psychology in 1964 after she had her children.

She was a model in the 60's and was offered a position on the Today Show to discuss women's interest stories written by then Staff Writer, Barbara Walters. After college, she was a Child Welfare case worker, Beaver County, PA. She was a vivacious, intelligent, active, and elegant southern woman who loved her family.

She and her husband lived in S. Pasadena, FL, at Harbourside where she taught line dancing to seniors before she moved into assisted living. With her beautiful voice, she sang with the Sweet Adelines and in the choir at the Unitarian Church of St Petersburg, FL.

She is survived by her children, Julia Gregory (Warren) of Park City, UT, Steve Gerdnic (Maryanne) of Bradenton, FL and Amy Gerdnic (Dru Wilson) of St. Pete Beach, FL and three grandchildren, Kate Gregory, Scott Gregory (James Hansen) and Laura Gerdnic Surles (Hunter). She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gerdnic, her parents, C F Haws and Elva Haws, and her brother, CF "Sonny" Haws.
