Posted

BRADENTON – Local magistrate Susan Maulucci easily won her non-partisan 12th Circuit District Court judicial race against Art Jackman on Tuesday. She will take the seat being vacated by retiring judge Marc Gilner. In what was expected to be a closer race, Malucci earned the win by a 20 point margin.

Maulucci served 10 years as a general magistrate in the family division in Manatee County before stepping down to run for judge. She started as a prosecutor for the state attorney's office in 1984, after earning both her bachelor and law degrees from the University of Florida.

Maulucci spent most of the '90s in private practice, where she did criminal defense work. In 2000 she became a certified mediator, where she worked until being appointed magistrate in 2004, a position that was essentially one level below the one she will now take.

Maulucci won by similar margins in Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties.
