Bradenton, Florida - Melanie Wilson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on October 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old. Melanie is predeceased by her parents, LCDR John M. Hook and Anna Hook. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, John Wilson; her son, Marshall Wilson; her daughter, Kimberly Wilson; her grandchildren, Samantha LeGrange, Bradley Wilson, and Matthew Wilson; her great-granddaughter, Izzabella Polletta; and her daughter-in-law, Ann Wilson.

Born on June 8, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Melanie moved with her family to Arlington, Virginia, where she graduated from Yorktown High School in 1964. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida in 1969, where she met her future husband, John. They were married on March 15, 1969, and shortly thereafter moved to Bradenton, Florida, where they built their life together.

Melanie's early career began with a position as a juice tester for the USDA at Tropicana, but she found her true calling in public service. In 1970, she joined the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services (now the Department of Children and Families), where she worked for 33 years before retiring in 2003. Throughout her career, Melanie earned the respect of her colleagues and made a significant impact on the lives of many through her work.

A lifelong lover of horses, Melanie was an accomplished equestrian and cherished the time she spent riding and caring for her animals. However, her greatest passion was always her family. Melanie's love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and husband was boundless. She also adored her loyal chihuahua, Iggy, who brought her much joy and companionship.

A woman of warmth, kindness, and grace, Melanie's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service, and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 7, 2024, from 1-3 p.m. at the Oneco Kiwanis Community Center, 1720 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
