Michael Douglas Lance, known as Mike to his family and friends, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on September 12, 2025 in Bradenton, Florida. Born on May 28, 1959, at Travis Air Force Base in Vallejo, California, Mike was a man whose life was characterized by his independence, sense of humor, analytical mind, and adventurous spirit.

Mike's formative years were spent in California, Hawaii, North Carolina and Ohio. His athleticism was evident in high school through his endeavors as a football guard and a shot-putter for the Wayne High School Warriors in Huber Heights, Ohio. Shortly after graduation, a former classmate encouraged him to move to Florida to pursue a job in construction. This adventurous move resulted in a life-long love of Florida and a skilled trade in drywall and framing. His hands and mind were made for building. His dedication to his craft was evident in every project he undertook, and his colleagues respected him for his dependability and expertise. He knew that the true foundation of any project was the dedication to put forth his best until completion. His hard work provided shelter and comfort to countless individuals and families.

An avid fisherman, Mike found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed being on the water, rod in hand, waiting patiently for the next catch. His love for animals was just as strong, and he was known for his gentle and caring nature towards all creatures, great and small.

Mike was a source of stability for his beloved longtime girlfriend, Gina Hyatt, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He was also the proud father of his son, Mike Aguilar, and his daughter, Cassandra Michelle. Though his parents, Norman and Odetta Lance, and siblings Lendetta "Cassie" Barnes and Robert Lance, had passed before him, the love and lessons they shared remained an integral part of who Mike was. His brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Christine Lance, along with his sister and brother-in-law, Neva and Joe Wilgus, will cherish their memories of Mike. His numerous nephews and nieces – Richard, Jeff, and Jared Barnes; Deanna Lance; Wesley, Connor, and Raelee Lance; and Arin, Micah, and Aden Wilgus will continue to know Mike through the shared stories and memories. Mike is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Aiva, Michael II, Demi, Meadow, and Mathias-Jay (MJ) and their mother, Coda. His numerous friends will remember him as forgiving, compassionate, and helpful while his coworkers will remember him as a skilled, reliable and hard worker.

His life was a testament of one who continued to push forward despite adversity. He tackled challenges with his own ingenious way of thinking including how to survive through two hurricanes while living out of his car.

His daily interactions with coworkers led to lengthy conversations with his friend, Steve Whitaker. As a result of these deep discussions, Mike accepted Christ as his Savior and secured a place in Heaven.

Mike's spirit is now free from the confines of this world. May we take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of our Lord, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him. His life is a constant reminder that with all life's twists and turns, it is a journey to be embraced with courage and perseverance. May his memory forever be a blessing to us.
