Michael Poisson

Michael G. Poisson, 76, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on January 18, 2025, at Tidewell Hospice House of Bradenton, Florida. Born on June 11, 1948, in Buffalo, New York, Michael was the son of Mr. Robert J. Poisson Sr. and Mrs. Marguerite Joyce.

Michael was a military veteran having served in the United States Navy and United States Army retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Michael attended Villanova University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Buffalo and a master's degree in public administration from Brockport State College. Michael entered the New York State Police Academy in 1972 and retired in 1995, moving to Anna Maria Island, Florida after his retirement. During his career as a New York State Trooper, he rose to the rank of Major and attended the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Throughout his life, Michael was known for his love of exotic birds and his involvement in many veteran organizations (V.F.W., American Legion and others). He was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Barbara Poisson, his sister Diane Burmeister (Brad), his brothers John Poisson (Tammy), Robert J. Poisson Jr. (Jill), stepmother Nancy Poisson (Nee Shaw), sisters-in-law Ester Brock (Stanley), Betty Edmunds (Donald), Pat O'Brien (Tom), and Sandy Sierzega (Michael). He is also survived by his nephews Michael Burmeister, Thomas Poisson, Jacob Poisson, Corey Sierzega, Raymond Albrecht, Daniel Albrecht, Benjamin Albrecht, nieces Kristy Barhite (Dale), Dana Burmeister, Emma Poisson and many great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Marguerite Joyce, and sister Mary Lynn Himmelman (Nee Poisson),

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory located at 604 43rd St W, Bradenton, Florida 34209. A military burial will immediately follow at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of choice.

Michael will be remembered for living life to the fullest and having a larger-than-life personality. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
