BRADENTON – Alan and Sheree Napier of Napier’s Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary in Manatee County have been arrested and charged with additional counts in connection with an ongoing animal cruelty and fraud investigation.
Alan Napier was charged Monday night with one count of Scheme to Defraud and two counts of Unlawful Solicitation of Funds, while Sheree Napier was charged with one count of Scheme to Defraud and one count of Unlawful Solicitation of Funds.
They have both bonded out of the Manatee County Jail, according to MCSO.
On April 17, 2014, the couple was charged with 15 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, while Alan Napier was also charged with one count of Unlawful Solicitation of Funds.
The arrests stemmed from an investigation after a February 5 search warrant execution by deputies at the facility on State Road 64 East in Bradenton.
Over 300 dogs, cats, horses, pigs and other animals were confiscated from the facility, which would often take overflow from the county shelters in order to help sustain "no-kill" numbers. The animals were found to be living in filth and squalor. Several of the animals confiscated had to be put down.
The Manatee Sheriff's Office says that the investigation will continue and even more charges are possible.
