SARASOTA -- Come celebrate World Ocean Day with the wild world of Dr. Seuss, based on the theme of his book, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" and - of course - "Mote fish!"
Mote's World Ocean Day Family Festival is a day of fun and education dedicated to Earth's oceans and the wondrous creatures living there.
World Ocean Day was created in 1992 at the Earth Summit and declared a holiday by the United Nations in 2009. It is an opportunity to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea.
Join the celebration from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, in the Mote Aquarium Courtyard, Admission is free with an Aquarium ticket or Mote Membership.
Guests can enjoy games, crafts, prizes, educational activities, a dunk tank, face painting and more.
Kids can get silly with the Lazy Fairy Improv Troupe during live shows every half-hour from 11:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. And of course, Mote mascots Gilly the Shark and Shelley the Sea Turtle will be on the scene along with Chick-Fil-A's favorite cow.
Guests can learn more about our environment from local groups, including the Florida Native Plant Society, Girl Scouts of Gulf Coast Florida, Hands On Manatee, Sarasota Bay Estuary Program, Solutions To Avoid Red Tide, the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Tampa Bay Watch.
