Movers and Shakers: Cathleen McCabe, MD Granted Membership in the American College of Eye

BRADENTON – The Eye Associates is proud to announce that Cathleen McCabe, MD has been granted membership in the American College of Eye Surgeons (ACES). Tremendous advancements in technology have revolutionized eye surgery, thereby necessitating a surgical certification process to ensure that quality eye surgery is performed. Ophthalmic surgeons, like Dr. McCabe, who apply for membership in the ACES have made a commitment to excellence in eye surgery and are dedicated to offering their patients the very latest in surgical skill and technology.  Since its founding in 1986, the mission of ACES has been to continuously advance the standard of patient care. For ACES certification in the sub-specialties of cataract/implant surgery and refractive surgery, Dr. McCabe submitted a detailed record of 50 consecutive surgical procedures. This allowed examiners to assess her surgical procedures, the indications for surgery, the appropriateness and type of surgery performed, the frequency of surgical complications, and finally the visual outcome and improvement following surgery.

Dr. McCabe was then contacted by the ACES for a live surgery evaluation via video tape. An on-site observer monitored a consecutive series of surgical cases and obtained a video tape of each procedure as it was performed. Following the completion of the surgical taping, the video tapes were returned to the Board of ACES and forwarded to a panel of surgical examiners (ophthalmologists certified by ABES) for evaluation. Upon successful completion of this evaluation, Dr. McCabe received her certification by the American Board of Eye Surgery.

At The Eye Associates, Dr. McCabe specializes in cataract and clear lens replacement surgery with high tech lens implants and LASIK procedures. She has performed over 30,000 cataract surgeries and more than 17,000 LASIK procedures.
