ANNA MARIA – Artspace invites the public to an artist's reception Saturday, March 22nd, 6-8 PM. The new exhibit, "Neon Neurons" features the work of Dr. Juan Sanchez-Ramos. Also known as 'Zeno', Sanchez-Ramos started his early career as a wandering portrait artist and designer, but evolved over the years to become a neuroscientist-physician. He is the Medical Director for the Parkinson Research Foundation and Professor of Neurology at USF - Tampa.
Zeno uses images from research in neurobiology to inspire new designs and art works. Neon Neurons was inspired by photomicrographs of neurons in his laboratory. Intrigued by the fractal nature of neurons, he began to draw simple neurons using a 3D fractal drawing program. The images show the structure of developing neurons, from their stem cell origins to their beautiful fractal branching structures.
Zeno will give a short talk about his research and design processes during the reception. Join artists, friends and neighbors for champagne, snacks, community painting, and live music. And, enjoy another Artspace Community Challenge! Be sure to cast your vote for the People's Choice Award for the Artspace Challenge. Wear something neon!
