Palmetto 4th of July Festival to Feature The Guess Who and Village People!

The Guess Who

PALMETTO — Palmetto's annual bash has been building a reputation as the biggest local 4th of July Festival in the area, anchored by a prime-time classic rock concert that's free to the public. From Eddie Money to Three Dog Night, local music fans have enjoyed big-name acts on the small town stage. But each year, it gets a little tougher to top the one before. So for this Independence Day, the city is bringing in two acts.

In 2013, Palmetto will celebrate 4th of July with a free concert in the newly renovated Sutton Park featuring The Guess Who and the Village People. The music of these two groups span decades of rock and roll and can be found on the radio, where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials and in major motion pictures.

The Guess Who will open the festival around 5:00 pm with #1 hit songs such as "American Woman" and  "No Sugar Tonight," as well as top 10 hits like "Laughing", "These Eyes" and "No Time."

The Village People

The one-of-a-kind Village People are synonymous with dance music. Their impact on music has earned them the title “Kings of Disco” and even a star on Hollywood Boulevard. The band scored a number of disco and dance hits, including their trademark "Macho Man", as well as "In the Navy" and their biggest hit, "Y.M.C.A." The costumed band has sold upward of 100 million records worldwide. The Village People will appear around 7:00 p.m.

The free concert will be performed on the newly-constructed Sutton Park Pavilion. The roof structure will be completed prior to this year’s event. This 40 ft x 70 ft sized stage is two years in  the making and will be the venue for future Palmetto 4th of July Festival music performances.

At the end of the concert, guests are encouraged to take a short walk down to the Manatee River to enjoy a Fireworks display sponsored by the City of Palmetto, Manatee County and the City of Bradenton. The Fireworks start around 9:30 pm.

The Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency, in conjunction with Oler Productions will promote the concert. For vendor information please contact Jen Silverio at the Palmetto CRA (941-723-4988). Concert artist appearances are contingent upon final contract approval.
