Palmetto City Commission Meeting Agenda Results: 2/24/2014

PALMETTO --  At the Palmetto City Commission meeting Monday, members had different views on what and how much should be spent for the city's gateway signage. In other business, the city voted to grant Waste Management another 10 months to work out contract stipulations.

Call to order, followed by a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance.

RECOGNITION: 5-year old Alexander Foley will be recognized for his heroic efforts on February 2, 2014.

Action Request: Motion to approve the Green Bridge Gateway Entrance Sign not-to-exceed $75,000. -- Approved, 3 to 2, Williams and Varnadore dissenting

11.  POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING UPDATE -- Chief Wells said, I just want tell Commissioner Cornwell, we got the information, and are working on it." (Dropping off unauthorized flyers).

13  DEPARTMENT HEADS’ COMMENTS --

Tusing -- Two things -- A.  8th Ave and 10th Street will be closed Thursday to fix a valve.

B. 10 months extension, so Waste Management can  work on contract. City of Palmetto wants their contract to be molded after the Longboat Key contract --  Approved, Unanimously

Barnabey -- As long as the agreement is consistent with Waste Management. We will be working on the medical   

Jim Freeman -- No Comment 

15.  MAYOR’S REPORT --  I will be receiving  the 22nd Annual, "Future of the Region Award," from the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, for the City's 5th Street project. Ceremony will be at the Carillon Hilton, St. Petersburg, March 28th.

Smith --  Went to D.C. -- overstayed my welcome by three days (laugh). I want to talk about staying on top of the "(voting) precinct" issue
