Palmetto Youth Softball Team Headed to Nationals

Posted

PALMETTO -- At Monday night's Palmetto City Commission meeting, the room was crowded with red shirts. It was a show of support for the Palmetto Little League's 10-11 year old softball team, who were being recognized for their undefeated state championship season. Next stop: Hedgesville, WV, where the sluggers will vie for the national crown.

It was the 6-4 and 6-3 victories over Plant City Little League a week ago that put Palmetto in the run for the state title in Clearwater this past weekend.

On Saturday, Palmetto triumphed over Keystone Little league 10-0, then beat Windemere Little League 7-2, qualifying for the State Championship game on Sunday.

The undefeated team went on to victory, winning the state title after routing Greater Fort Myers Little League 14-1.

Now Palmetto hits the road for West Virginia, where they will compete in the Tournament of State Champions in Hedgesville.

State Champions, Lexi Childers, Makenna Simpson, Morgan Simpson, Abigail Mickel, Hailey Stovall, Erica Wilkinson, Cortney Waldo, Alexis Orluski, Raelin Mcallister, Makayla Huttinger, Kaileigh Donaldson and Melanie Brack, are the state's softball darlings and they're headed into the record books to prove it.
