It is with great sadness that the family of Philip J. Gagen announces he passed away on October 30, 2024, just 13 days after his 70th birthday. Phil died in the hospital after a diagnosis of head and neck cancer and struggles with respiratory issues after a fall at his home on May 29th of this year. On October 17, 1954, Phil was born at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana and is the youngest of six children born to Charles and Ada Gagen. Phil attended St Mary's Elementary School and graduated from Central Catholic High School, both in Lafayette.
He studied at Purdue University in West Lafayette as well as Manatee Community College in Bradenton. Phil worked as a computer software professional at various levels from 1990 until his retirement from Jackson Hewitt in September of 2019. He was an avid fan of Purdue football, basketball and the Tampa Bay Rays and Buccaneers. Some might say fanatic. Phil was a loving father, an avid sports fan and a devout Catholic.
Phil was predeceased by his Parents, Charles and Ada Gagen, and his beloved daughter, Shannon Gagen who died in 2004. Phil will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Barbara (Gagen) Uher, Janet (Gagen) Murray, Kathy (Gagen) Booth, his brothers, Tom and Ed Gagen, and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with his nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the 11 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church: 3100 26th St W, Bradenton, FL 34205
There will be a burial ceremony following the Mass where his only daughter, Shannon is buried, at the Skyway Memorial Gardens: 5200 US-19, Palmetto, FL 34221.
