Photo Exhibit Highlights Impact of Sea Level Rise

BRADENTON – Chasing The Waves, a photo exhibit to raise awareness of the effects of rising seas on our shores and communities, is now on display through February inside the Valentine House at Robinson Preserve, 1704 99th Street NW in Bradenton.

A special reception for the exhibit will be held Friday, Jan. 17 beginning at 5 p.m., with refreshments provided. Attendees are invited to make reservations to stay and take part in the “Starry Night Walk” from 6:30-8 p.m.

“Chasing The Waves” is sponsored by the Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay Estuary Programs as a way to visually depict how sea level rise may affect our shorelines, structures and communities. The exhibit features photos taken locally and around the world during annual “King,” or extreme high tides. King Tides occur once or twice a year when the earth and moon align, producing the highest predictable tides. The exhibit is traveling to libraries, museums and other venues through May 2014.

Following the exhibit reception, search the skies with naturalist Aedan from Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Department, as you look for the constellations and planets of the winter night.
