SARASOTA -- Nik Wallenda successfully crossed U.S. 41 on a wire 200-feet above the Sarasota bayfront Tuesday morning, while more than 10,000 people looked on. Known as "King of the Wire," Wallenda is a world famous daredevil who holds six Guinness World Records. He is most famous for being the first person to walk a tightrope over the Niagara Falls, a stunt he performed on international television last year. Canadian officials insisted Wallenda wear a tether for that feat; however, the Sarasota City commission approved a totally detached attempt in Circus City for the 7th generation member of the legendary local family, The Flying Wallendas.
