A grant of nearly $1 million will help Port Manatee improve security, the port said in a press release Thursday.
The $998,452 the port received on Sept. 30 is coming from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. It will go toward hybrid security vehicles and enhanced port security surveillance technology.
"This grant improves the port's ability to secure the assets and personnel of Port Manatee and its customers. It reaffirms our commitment to be a leader in seaport security," said David McDonald, executive director of Port Manatee.
