BRADENTON -- Sue Fitzgerald has been involved with Special Olympics Florida for 40 years, and recently received her 40 year pin during the 40th anniversary of Special Olympics Florida. No other volunteer has received this pin for 40 years of service.

Sue served as Coordinator for Special Olympics Manatee County and was responsible for overseeing sports such as volleyball, bowling, tennis, and swimming, amongst other activities. She made it possible for Manatee County to have a Special Olympics 40 years ago when she founded Special Olympics Manatee County with her own funds.

Recipient of the 2006-2007 Bill Crutchfield Award, given to the region's volunteer of the year, Sue represents what it means to be there for others and we all can feel exceptionally special to have her here with us.

At Tuesday's meeting, Manatee's Board of County Commissioners, designated September 25th 2012 Sue Fitzgerald Day.

Thank you Sue, for all you do.
