Ray Turner Named to Manatee Planning Commission

Posted
BRADENTON – At Tuesday's meeting, Manatee County Commissioners unanimously approved real estate broker Ray Turner as the newest member of the Manatee County Planning Commission. Turner replaces Mike Rahn, who was elected to the Manatee County Commission District 4 seat in November.

Turner was nominated by Commissioner Vanessa Baugh. Other applicants included Xtavia Bailey, Brad Bishop, Morris Hill, Eugene Hendry, Michael Jones, Linda Lukas, Alan Marder, Jason Mehaffie, Ed Mitchell, Mike Campbell, Sandra Clay, Carol Felts, and Glen Gibelina.

"My extensive background in mortgage banking and real estate gives me the experience to understand what the impact is, good or potentially negative, for individuals given certain decisions," wrote Turner in his application. "Being Self-Employed provides insight into the world of the entrepreneur. I sit on the Board Of Directors for the BIA, which has been valuable in raising my awareness of current affairs, not just for builders, but insurance companies, Car dealerships, as well as all of the other small businesses that are members. I've lived in Manatee County since 2003 and witnessed enormous growth. I have to say, overall I've been very pleased and it's made me proud to live here as a result."

Sitting planning commissioners John Delesline and Bill Smock, whose terms were set to expire this month, were reappointed to the board. The planning commission is a volunteer advisory board that makes non-binding recommendations on land development issues to the county commission.
