In this time of greater heat in the summer in Florida, it's startling that school buses often have no air conditioning. The article states that children are more vulnerable to heat effects, heating up more quickly and taking longer to cool down. This can be very dangerous for their health.
This is an even greater problem when the child goes home, and there is little or no air conditioning. It is the greatest electricity user in homes, and some simply can't afford it.
Electricity rates have increased significantly over the past few years, making it nearly impossible for lower-income families to pay. Utilities seek to provide a greater return to their investors than to their customers. The Public Service Commission has rubber-stamped the increases every time.
As the Senate President-elect for Florida, Senator Boyd can make a difference for affordable energy. I hope he will consider lower-income families with vulnerable children when utilities ask for further increases.

Very good letter Sabine. The cost of electricity is a component of a much larger problem that we need to address for the welfare of the younger generations and generations to come. Data center huge use of electricity, global warming etc. will increase the need for electric power. We need to seriously address renewable energy sources and steps to combat global warming. If we don't future generations will suffer and rightly point the finger at us for our poor stewardship. We as a collective are like the frog in the slowly heating water that will eventually cook us. Serious action now needs to taken or else our frog is cooked.
