With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished Richard Betters on January 4, 2026. Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Richard was born on August 20, 1941, to Halsey and Agnes Betters in AuSable, New York, where he grew up with immense love from his mother in which he carried with him and passed it on to his own family.

Richard was a hardworking man throughout his life, always finding a way to fix anything he was able to get his hands on. He was an Army Veteran where he served his country in Vietnam and Korea, earning many medals for his service. After his service, Richard worked as a mechanic then he moved back home to AuSable where he worked as a handyman and mail carrier.

Richard is known for his admiration and unwavering love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren in which he showered with love and affection. In addition, Richard enjoyed watching westerns, fishing, making others laugh, and spending time with his family and cats.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents Halsey and Agnes Betters. He is survived by his loving wife Janice Betters, daughters, Jeannine Abare and Michelle Gushue; son, David Gushue; his siblings, Rose Blaise, Phyllis Betters, and Charles Betters; his grandchildren Bryce Allen, Therian Betters, and Sarah Braid; his great granddaughters in which he adored Enziatta and Ciity; and many nieces and nephews.

Dad/Grandpa we will miss you immensely. We will forever hold you close to our hearts. Life will not be the same without you. but we are so thankful for all you gave us and the years we were able to spend with you. We will never forget your boundless love for us and the wonderful memories we share with you in it. We love you forever.

A Committal Service with Army Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Sarasota National Cemetery: 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
