Roger William Allgor, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on April 13, 2025, at his winter home in Holmes Beach, Florida.

Roger was a man whose presence was felt deeply by all who knew him. He shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Carole Grehl Allgor, and together they raised a family that was the center of his world. He was a proud father to his sons, Russell (wife Karen) and Andrew (wife Katie), and his daughter, Alison (partner Jacob). Roger's joy was multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Ella, Aidan, and Meara Allgor. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Allgor, and his brother, Jack Allgor.

Born on January 16, 1931, in Trenton, New Jersey, Roger grew up in Neptune, New Jersey. He graduated from Neptune High School in 1949, where he was a player on their state championship basketball team. He served his nation as a parachute rigger in the US Navy on a carrier in the Mediterranean. He was a longtime resident of Ocean Township, New Jersey, and a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel church (now Mother of Mercy Parish) in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Roger's thirst for knowledge and passion for teaching led him to Trenton State College, where he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. For 34 years, he was a revered teacher and coach in Middletown, New Jersey. He led varsity basketball and tennis teams, inspiring young athletes with his enthusiasm and fair play. Beyond the classroom, Roger fostered school spirit through his management of the school store, where he crafted legendary seasonal window displays that showcased his artistic talent, sense of humor, and commitment to community. These creative displays even inspired the holiday decorations he designed for the front porch of his house, becoming cherished symbols of joy and togetherness for those who admired them.

Roger was a talented artist who became a more prolific painter after his retirement from teaching. His love for sports and his broader community was exemplified by his 25-year tenure as Director of Recreation in Ocean Township. Roger was the driving force behind the Biddy Basketball program, the recreation soccer program, and the tennis clinics for women and children. His leadership extended to directing the township's pool and tennis facility for a decade, leaving a lasting legacy of care and dedication for both the community using the pool and all the staff, providing many local students their first summer jobs.

Roger also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Jersey Shore Summer Basketball League, a semi-professional league, for many years.

Roger's interests were a reflection of his vibrant and active spirit. An avid tennis player in his younger years, he later became a bicycle enthusiast. His dedication to fitness was remarkable, often biking up to 40 miles a day. Roger also had a passion for watching sports and cherished the camaraderie and competition they fostered. Above all, he loved meeting new people, making friends in every corner of his life with his warm smile and engaging conversations. No one was a stranger for long in his presence. Anyone who joined Roger for a bike ride would hear warm welcomes and "Hey Roger" every couple of hundred yards as he toured the Jersey Shore or Anna Maria Island on his bike.

Those who knew Roger will remember him as the embodiment of creativity, friendliness, and optimism. His ability to see the best in people and situations, to create opportunities for joy and learning, and to foster genuine connections made him a cherished figure in his community.
