Roger Dale Thompson, 74, of Bradenton, Florida passed away on September 6, 2024, at Blake Hospital in Bradenton after a brief illness.
He was born April 14, 1950, in Bath County, Kentucky, the son of Herman Thompson and Mayme (Hatton) Thompson. He lived in Alexandria, Indiana, Madison County area and was the owner / operator of the Little Dutch Cleaners and Thompson Coin Laundry in the 1980's.
Roger was a 1968 graduate of Bath County High School, Kentucky. He briefly attended Morehead State University. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed being with family and friends. One of his greatest enjoyments was taking trips with his family. He served 6 ½ years in the United States Air Force and was a Staff Sergeant. Roger was proud of his military service years.
Roger has lived in Bradenton, Florida, and the Mantatee County area for the last 35 years. He worked as a turf maintenance technician for Manatee County Schools and Manatee County Park and Recreation. He was also a member of the American Legion Kirby Stewart Post 24 in Bradenton, Florida.
Roger enjoyed the outdoors, going deep sea fishing, and gardening. He was an avid sports fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends on Sunday eat-a-thons.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Mayme (Hatton) Thompson; sisters: Violet Thompson and Rita Thompson; sister-in-law Betty Reed; brothers-in-law: Dee Farmer, Ray Reed, and Curt Green; nephews: Merle Farmer and Larry Joe Reed.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 47 years: Connie Bangle Thompson, whom he married on December 11, 1976. His daughter: Kristy Thompson; son: Jeffery Jason Thompson; brother: Jimmie (Betty) Thompson of Salt Lick, Kentucky; sisters-in-law Shirley Farmer of Alexandria, Indiana and Linda Green of Fort Wayne, Indiana, nephew: Terry (Ronda) Farmer of Alexandria, Indiana; niece Jeanie Sue (Chris) Doenges of New Haven, Indiana; niece Lisa Reed of Alexandria, Indiana and niece Mary Fowler of Leesburg, Florida, and several great nieces and nephews and several cousins; Aunt Opal Blankenship, Aunt Nellie Goodpaster, Aunt Deloris Hatton of Owingsville, Kentucky and Aunt Janice Hatton of Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Uncle Ralph Evans of Anderson, Indiana.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery; 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
