The Rowdies finished up their first training session of the NASL Fall Season this month as they begin their quest to clinch a spot in the championship game against the winners of the Spring Season, the Atlanta Silverbacks. Captain Frankie Sanfilippo, lively as ever, recently talked about his opinion of how things have gone so far this season.

“I think the Spring Season went well. We were just unfortunate in a couple games, as we were only three points behind the first-place team” the Captain explained. “Overall, we were in every game and everybody fought. We got a lot of things out of it and hopefully we can bring that to the Fall Season and go all the way to the championship.”

Sanfilippo missed a several matches in the first half due to a bout with bronchitis and his presence and leadership on the pitch was missed. “For me it was just getting my breath and my body back to normal. I got over it and ever since then things have been great and we’ve been doing well.”

The Rowdies captain is very optimistic about the possibilities for the squad in the Fall Season.

“I think we’re definitely going to make a way to get to the championship,” explained Sanfilippo. “With the guys that we have and everybody coming in here healthy, we have a great chance to win the Fall Season. That’s what we’re looking at right now, just getting points and getting wins and finding a way into the championship match.”

With only a couple more weeks until the first game of the Fall Season, the Rowdies will continue to train in order to regain their fitness. Under the leadership of Sanfilippo and others, the team will have the necessary guidance to get back to the championship match and fight to retain their Soccer Bowl title.

The 2012 NASL Champions will open the Fall Season on the road at Toyota Field against San Antonio on Saturday, August 3. The historic rivalry between the Rowdies and the Cosmos will reemerge just two weeks into the 2013 NASL Fall Season on Saturday, August 10, with Tampa Bay hosting New York at Al Lang Stadium.
