BRADENTON – It's time for spring cleaning and that includes your medicine cabinet! Medicines kept in the home are highly susceptible to misuse and theft. Prescription drug abuse kills seven Floridians every day. Each day 2,500 teens abuse prescription drugs for the first time.

Most people who abuse prescriptions get them from family and friends. Flushing medications down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards to humans and animals.

Local law enforcement and the Manatee County Substance Abuse Coalition urge you to dispose of your expired and unused medications safely.

You can do this at five participating Walgreens on 1455 Upper Manatee River Rd, 6003 14th St W, and 5896 Cortez Rd in Bradenton; 930 8th Ave W in Palmetto; or 5945 U.S. 301 in Ellenton. You can also dispose of your medications with the MCSO at 600 U.S. 301 Blvd, Suite 202 in Bradenton or the Holmes Beach Police Dept at 5801 Marina Dr. Liquids and needles are not accepted.

Do your part for a safe community and a clean environment! For more info: call (941) 749-3030, ext 3491 or visit www.drugfreemanatee.org.
