Savor Sarasota at Marcel DW

Prix fixe three-course dinner menu continues through the summer

Posted

SARASOTA — Since Savor Sarasota announced a long list of restaurants that would be extending their special three-course $45 prix fixe dinner, I decided to head to downtown Sarasota, where Marcel DW was offering one of the most interesting menus.

Marcel is a cute little French bistro on Main Street, across the street from Sarasota’s other French staple, C'est La Vie. It’s a little spot on a crowded block and features several outside tables. Inside, they make the most of a small and ordinary space, transforming it into a cozy experience that is highlighted by friendly service, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive.

Unlike most restaurants, Marcel’s Savor Sarasota menu is unlimited. You can select any starter, any entree, and any dessert on the entire menu, which is chock-full of French staples.  The menu is boosted by an impressively curated and well-priced wine list, as well as a full array of craft cocktails.

The white anchovies, served with poblano aioli on a charred baguette, were absolutely exquisite and the perfect start to our meal. The snapper ceviche, served with passion fruit, cucumber, jalapenos, cilantro, and tostones, holds its own in a town known for above-par offerings of the Peruvian favorite.

The sea scallops with cauliflower, peas, mushrooms, and truffle add a hearty and distinctly French spin to this Gulf Coast standard, really making it stand out. On the evening we attended, the special was braised rabbit over gnocchi. Being a big fan of rabbit, the choice was easy and the result was truly delightful.

For dessert, the banana bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and spiced rum flambé is a must-try, while the chocolate ganache tartelette with caramel and sea salt is sure to enchant those who enjoy mixing sweet and savory flavors.

Marcel DW will be extending its Savor Sarasota offer through the end of summer. Click here to see a full list of restaurants that have extended theirs as well.
