SCF Names Former Gator Star Head Softball Coach

BRADENTON — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota has named Mandy Schuerman as the head coach of the SCF Manatees women’s softball team. She will assume her position Sept. 8.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a dynamic college, and I look forward to building upon an already successful softball program,” said Schuerman.

Schuerman most recently was an Exceptional Student Education teacher in physical science and chemistry and head coach of the women’s softball team at Bloomingdale High School in Valrico, Fla. In the 2014 season, she led her team in claiming the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 8A State Championship title with a record of 28-3.

For her accomplishments, she was named the Florida High School Athletic Association 8A Coach of the Year, Tampa Tribune Overall Female Coach of the Year and the Florida Dairy Farmers Softball Coach of the Year. Her experience at the college level includes serving as the assistant coach and pitching coach at Florida International University in Miami and assistant softball coach and health science adjunct professor at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.

“Coach Schuerman is a tremendous addition to our SCF Athletics team. Her athletic, coaching, and educational experiences have prepared her to lead our softball program into the future,” said SCF Athletic Director Matt Ennis.

During her college career, Schuerman was a pitcher/utility player for the Florida Gators. She graduated with a BA in Criminology and was inducted into the UF Athletic Honor Society. Schuerman was SEC Player of the Year and an All-Academic SEC selection. She also served as a softball camp counselor at UF.

"She is the complete package to take the softball program to the next level of success. We are confident that she will serve as an effective coach and mentor to our student-athletes as they achieve academic and athletic success at college and beyond," said Dr. Donald Bowman, SCF vice president of student affairs.
